How to make anchor chain markings for ships?
The marking of ship anchor chains is made on the support blocks near the connecting links to accurately determine the number of sections of ship anchor chains in the water during anchoring and hoisting.
Style of ship anchor chain marking
Previously, stainless steel wire was used to make more than ten turns on the corresponding chain links. Now there is a new requirement to weld a 2mm thick plate of stainless steel onto the corresponding chain links. Do you know if there is this new requirement? I hope someone can come forward and explain. I think the current standard is about marking and painting ship anchor chains or wrapping them with stainless steel wire and paint.
Both stainless steel wire and copper wire are acceptable. Generally, the first section is wrapped around the first chain after the Kent ring, the second section is wrapped around the second chain after the Kent ring, and so on. Apply red and white paint again.

New standard for ship anchor chains
Compared to GB553-83, GB553-2012 mainly involves modifications and changes.
——- Change the wrapped metal wire to stainless steel strip and specify the material;
——- Added diagrams to clarify the marking positions of ship anchor chains before the 10th section;
——- Added marking methods for ship anchor chains after Section 10;
——- Added the requirement to paint the connecting links with red waterline paint;
——- Cancel the method of immersion coating with asphalt paint and add the method of immersion coating with black epoxy paint - - Add standards for secondary and tertiary steel of ship anchor chains

How to make ship anchor chain markings
1. The purpose of marking is to identify the number of sections of the ship's anchor chain in the water when casting or anchoring.
2. Marking Methods: Section 1 Marking Methods
i、 Wrap a metal wire or (white steel ring) around a supporting block with a blocking chain link before and after the connecting chain link or (shackle) between the first and second sections
ii、 Apply white paint to all the gear links between the two connecting links and red paint to the connecting links
The Marking Method in Section 2
i、 The connecting chain link or (shackle) between the second and third sections is wrapped with metal wire or (white steel ring) on the support block with the second stop chain link before and after
ii、 Apply white paint to all the gear links between the two connecting links
3. Marking method for connecting chain links with red paint and other sections
i: Same as above marking method, and so on until the fifth section
Ii: Starting from the sixth section, repeat the approach of the first section and mark the last two sections with a warning.

Marking with anchor chains
When marking with staggered chains, 5-10 metal wires should be wound around the crossbar.
The last two sections can be marked with red or yellow paint as a warning of the danger of loose anchor chains at the end of the ship, to be alert to anchor loss. In order to indicate that the anchor has entered the ship's anchor chain tube and has been fully twisted, white paint is usually applied to several chain links corresponding to the sprocket or chain brake when the anchor is fully twisted.
