How to determine the number of anchor chain sections on a ship?
The number of sections in a ship's anchor chain usually refers to the total number of sections in the ship's anchor chain.
There are two types of ship anchor chain specifications in national standards, one is 27.5m per section and the other is 25m per section. In most cases, the choice of ship anchor chain is 27.5m.

This refers to civilian ship anchor chains, while Chinese warships use the one with a length of 20m per section.
After knowing the length of each section of the anchor chain, it is relatively simple for us to calculate the number of ship anchor chain sections. The number of ship anchor chain sections can be obtained by directly dividing the length by the length of each section, which is 27.5m.
But we know that in normal use, sailors cannot measure the number of knots in such a long and heavy ship's anchor chain. So how do sailors usually measure the number of anchor chain links on a ship?
The most direct way is usually to listen. Because our sailors have developed a pair of windward ears during the year-round anchoring process, they can know when to go next based on the sound of the anchor chain being lowered. You can tell the number of anchor chains on a ship by hearing as many sounds as possible.

Because each section of the ship's anchor chain has corresponding anchor chain accessories connected to each other, such as connecting shackles, swivel sets, and so on. These anchor chain attachments not only serve to connect each section of the ship's anchor chain, but also can resolve the torque between the anchor chains underwater. It can prevent anchor chains from breaking due to torsion and causing anchor loss.
Some ship owners may require that corresponding paint be applied to each section of the ship. So our sailors can check the number of anchor chain sections on the ship based on the location marked by the paint.
That is by measuring the underwater velocity of the anchor chain, and then based on the water depth, anchoring time, and so on. Through mathematical calculations, we can obtain the number of ship anchor chain sections.
Because we know that during the process of anchoring, it is not always better to throw a ship for a longer time. On the contrary, if it is too long, it will be unsafe.
Because if thrown too long, the grip will not be strong, which can easily lead to safety accidents such as anchor loss.
Only by throwing the length of the ship's anchor chain just right can we maximize the role of the ship's anchor, control the hull, and prevent safety accidents such as anchor swinging.
The length of ship anchor chains is usually chosen to be three to four times the water depth. This length is quite suitable, not only does it have just the right grip, but it is also less likely to cause anchor swinging. If encountering strong winds and waves, adjust the length of the ship's anchor chain according to the actual situation.
