How to tie the mooring line to the mooring post

Mooring requires the use of mooring lines to secure the vessel. In some places, when mooring buoys, not only cables but also anchor chains on the ship are used, One end of the cable (eye splice) is tied to a bollard on the shore, while the other end is tied to a cable car or bollard on the ship.

Large ships are classified into head line, core bread line, core spring line, and After spring line according to the position, direction, and function of the mooring ropes at the mooring dock.

When a large ship docks at a port, it is generally necessary to deliver one end of the ship's cable (bow/eye splice) to the shore, and then the shore cable worker will hang the bow of the cable onto the mooring line on the shore. The ropes on the ship can be delivered to the shore by using a rowing line, a cable gun, or a cable boat. If a skimming cable is used, after successful skimming, the crew on board will tie the pipa head of the cable with the skimming cable and slowly send out the cable. The shore cable worker will pull the pipa head of the cable to the shore by pulling the skimming cable and tie it to the designated mooring post. The crew on board can adjust the length and force of the cables, and finally tie them securely to the cable car or bollard on board. If using a cable boat, it would be simple. Simply transfer the pipa head of the cable from the ship to the cable boat, and then the cable boat will deliver it to the shore. When the cable workers on the shore tie the cable pipa head to the same mooring post, they have their own rules。

The correct way to tie it is on the right: the pipa head of the rear cable is threaded through the pipa head of the front cable from below, so that removing any cable will not interfere with the other cables. The one on the left is an incorrect mooring, and the cable must be untied from top to bottom, which is not conducive to the ship's departure operation.

When carrying a single head cable, the cable is sent out from the bow or stern of the ship, and its front eye splice is connected to the buoy ring on the buoy, usually using a shackle.
